Embracing Change: Embrace Your Evolving Self
Have you felt confined by your nature? It may seem odd. Many of us experience this. We construct an image of ourselves, a version that we present to the world. Before we realize it, we find ourselves restricted, unable to break from the identity we've constructed.
The Challenge of Consistency
As humans, we naturally seek consistency. We take solace in the notion that our actions today are in line with those of yesterday and will likely echo those of tomorrow. This consistency gives us a feeling of continuity, indicating that we possess a personality and set of traits, rather than simply reacting to immediate circumstances.
Consistency also brings predictability something others value. They don't have to worry about outbursts or unexpected shifts in behavior. "That's Jeff! He's always so laid back. Jeff adores applesauce. Jeff is truly a Democrat at heart!". Here's the twist. People evolve.
The Truth About Transformation
As time passes our viewpoints can change, as can our personas. This evolution is not only natural but also beneficial.
It shows growth and change indicating that we are not beings. Likewise, our emotions and responses can vary based on the circumstances. There are days when we feel on top of the world while days, we may wake up feeling off.
Yet our longing for consistency and genuineness can, at times, hinder us from being spontaneous. We might act like we enjoy something because it fits our preferences or suppresses our emotions to keep up a calm facade. There could also be instances where we feel compelled to remain loyal to a stance due to the time and effort invested in it.
The Paradox of Authenticity
Ironically, in our pursuit of being 'true to ourselves,' we often end up suffocating ourselves and behaving like the image we've projected rather than who we truly are. This underscores the importance of avoiding self-doubt. Don't aim to portray a version of 'you.' Embrace moments where you may disappoint others and assert yourself. Act contrary to expectations.
At times, asserting that you won't always conform to expectations and that you have limits that should be respected can be beneficial.
Be cautious, in how you handle the situation when your barista assumes your order. You actually feel like having a chai latte. Remember, you are not confined by your choices or tastes. You are a changing person, with the ability to evolve and adapt. Don't let your identity restrict you. Take charge. Welcome the genuine version of yourself.
